NicHOLAS Mazziott

Low Brass

LMr. Mazziott has been a performer and educator in the Baltimore area since 1990.  A native to Maryland, he received his Bachelor degree in Music Education from the University of Maryland and his Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance from The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. He has performed with many orchestras, including the Baltimore Symphony, Maryland Symphony, Delaware Symphony, and Annapolis Symphony, as well as, a live radio performance with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in 2008.

He has held the Principal Trombone Position in the Maryland Philharmonic Orchestra and Second Trombone in the Gettysburg Symphony for many years. He currently is principal trombone in the York Symphony Orchestra and the Mid-Atlantic Symphony. As a performer, he has played in many great concert halls such as Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, the Gordon Center, and the Lyric Opera House. His chamber group experience includes working with the Concert Artists of Baltimore, Baystreet Brassworks, Baltimore Brass, The Handel Choir of Baltimore, and the Annapolis Chorale just to name a few. Mr. Mazziott has also had the pleasure of working with many big bands, including the The Starlight Orchestra at Busch Gardens, The Shades of Blue, Blue Moon Big Band,  and the Baltimore Jazz Alliance Big Band. 

Throughout his performing career, Mr. Mazziott has received many playing honors, such as being a finalist for the U.S. Army Field Band, a finalist in the Homer Ulrich solo competition, and placing second in the D.C. Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon. He has also performed the Gordon Jacob and David trombone concertos with the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra and the Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra. He has performed with many note-worthy performers, such as Ann Murray, Chris Vadala, Carter Brey, Charles Vernon, and members of the Philadelphia, Baltimore, National, New York Philharmonic, and Chicago Symphony Orchestras.  In addition to his extensive performing career, Mr. Mazziott is a dedicated educator in the Baltimore area teaching as a low brass instructor.  He currently teaches low brass at the Loyola University, Goucher College, The Gilman School, The Friends School of Baltimore, and Archbishop Curley High School, and his past schools include The Baltimore School for the Arts, McDonough School, Maryland Performing Arts Institute, College of Notre Dame, and The Community College of Baltimore County.

Nicholas Mazziott
